Weight Loss Wednesday: Introduction
Hey Mamas (and Papas)!
Starting today, and continuing every Wednesday, I’m going to be sharing with y’all simple steps to help you lose weight that won’t break your bank or take a ton of time that you don’t have. These steps are backed my research, either the official kind or my own unofficial research, as in things that have helped me get the the place I am.
The idea is simple. Just incorporate each tip into your life for 1 week. That’s all. If it works for you, keep doing it after the week is over. If you hate it, stop after a week. Now a week is not enough to show you dramatic results, but it is long enough for you to decide if you think you could make this a part of your life or not.
Generally, it takes 21-30 days to form a habit. That’s not to say that you will be a fitness model if you just keep going to the gym for 1 month or reach your goal weight after only a month with no soda. However, a month is sufficient time for most people to get used to doing (or not doing) something they are attempting to do (or not do). That means it will not be quite as much of a struggle after the first 30 days. You may still have relapses. You may encounter situations which cause you to change your views, or routines, or desires. You may get pregnant, or move, or change jobs, or quit your job, or decide to become a triathlete, or start your own reality TV show. All of these things can alter your habits, for better or worse. You’ll have to recommit yourself to your goals. You may change your goals.
All things considered, these tips are not a magical cure all. Some may be great and you’ll incorporate them into your daily life forevermore. Some may be awful for you and you throw them out after the week is done. The bottom line is that if you incorporate more healthy habits into your life over the long term, then you will become a more healthy person than you were before. Slowly changing your lifestyle for the better will lead to lasting changes, not yo-yo weight and crash diets that do nothing but hurt you in the long run.
Look forward to our first Weight Loss Wednesday Tip, coming this afternoon. It’s a good one, but doesn’t require any deprivation whatsoever. That’s my kind of tip.
