Best (and Worst) Take Out Choices
It’s almost lunchtime.
Are you hungry?
Did you pack your lunch? Are you cooking?
Or, are you like most Americans who are going to eat out for lunch today?
We all know home cooked meals generally trump eating out, but there are some gems in the land of restaurants and drive-thus.
If you make smart choices, you can dodge the calorie bombs and stay on track for the day. No need to derail all your efforts because you are on the road, or stuck at the office longer than expected.
(Clicking the restaurant names below will take you to each restaurants’ full nutrition menu)
Going to Starbucks?
Try the Protein Bistro Box with multigrain bread, cheddar cheese, fruit, peanut butter and an egg. This filling lunch will keep you going until dinner time and racks up only 380 calories.
Skip the Banana Nut Bread, which is going to give you a sugar high, a sugar crash, and tack 420 calories onto your daily count.
Did you know Panera has a drive-thru?
Try a half Roasted Turkey and Avocado BLT with the Low-fat Garden Veggie Soup with Pesto. You’ll struggle to finish this meal, and it will only cost you 400 calories.
Skip the french baguette, which will add 180 empty calories to your lunch, and choose the apple (80 cal) instead. You can pop it in your purse for a mid afternoon snack.
Have your co-workers (or besties) invited you to Chipotle?
Try the Burrito Bowl with Black Beans, Fajita Veggies, Fresh Tomato Salsa and Chili Corn Salsa, all for 390 calories.
Skip the chips (570 cal?!?!) and guacamole (230 cal). If you want the guac for a great boost of healthy fat, add it to your bowl.
Happy lunch, Mamas!
